I couldn’t believe my eyes as I stared at my husband’s crazy purchase from the Pinedale Mule Sale.  “Thelma & Louise” with their own specially made halters measuring 3 feet long had arrived the night before (I’m sure by semi-there’s no way they could fit in a horse trailer). We had heard about them over dinner at the Knotty Pine. The girls had met the guys on their way home from the mule sale and we had no idea why they were so giggly over the purchase.  The “two old girls” were to arrive the next morning. Little did we know that while we were dining they were being delivered early.  I’m sure the owner couldn’t wait to get them off his hands. In the short time they stayed at our house before being sold to the Forest Service in Lander, Wyoming, they broke several fences and attracted flocks of people wanting to see their enormity.  It took two of us with one on the fence just to halter them and Thelma was never very cooperative. While delivering them to Lander, the brakes on our truck went out and their went my husbands great investment where he supposedly doubled his money in two weeks.  Don’t worry, the girls arrived just fine, it was the truck that didn’t quite make it.
